2025 Transatlantic Cruise
Our second crossing to Europe was truly relaxing and surprising for a couple reasons mentioned below. Annette & I enjoy the relaxed pace of life on a transatlantic crossing. It’s a blessing to be able to enjoy the ship and all it has to offer for several days without any port days and it makes the time change much easier as we “fall back” 6 times during the 9 days at sea.
The Allure of the Seas was on her way to a retrofit in Spain so we got very good pricing for our 12 days on the ship. We also decided against the WiFi package (it’s expensive) and disconnected and just enjoyed the ship and new friends that we made.
We were enjoying our first dinner in the main dining room, near the end of our meal and Annette became very excited and told me to get up and run down and say hello to a mother and her two children, now before you think we are some creepy old couple this was a mother and children that were on our transatlantic cruise in April of 2024. What a great surprise it was to see Jennifer and her kids on another transatlantic cruise.
Annette was checking the entertainment line up and found one of the shows during our crossing was by The Nashville Tenors, one of the singers, Paul Vann went to college with her brother Gregg. What a surprise to run into him and get to watch him perform.
There were two stowaways on our cruise, a pair burrowing owls decided to board in Miami and made quite a bit of excitement for the guests as we all were looking for the two owls and taking pictures. I was up early one morning and saw two crew members capture one of the stowaways. The captain let us all know that the owls were captured and would receive a first class flight home to the US. I kinda doubt we would have gotten that treatment!
It was also amazing to meet other retired couples just like us, nomads and enjoying travel and exploring the world. During the veteran meet ups that the ship scheduled I met some very interesting military vets and made a couple new friends that are doing the same as we are, they sold everything and are traveling the world and enjoying learning more about this wonderful world.
One other wonderful surprise was we finally made a pass through the straights of Gibraltar during the day. We have passed through the straight 3 other times all in the middle of the night, so seeing the rock of Gibraltar during the day was a pleasent surprise.
We did stop at two ports of call along the way, Cartagena Spain (we stopped there last April) and Palma de Mallorca Spain. We enjoyed both stops very much and are looking forward to our time in France.
Life is good.
Until next time…
