Kotor - Last Day

Kotor - Reflections

Our time in Kotor is about to come to a close, we are spending our final Sunday in what is our favorite AirBnB during our initial year of retirement & slow travel. We are washing clothes and cleaning up the place before we leave tomorrow.

The wonderful thing about staying in an AirBnB is having some sense of normalcy, washing clothes, sweeping the floor, cooking, and washing dishes. These are chores we are used to doing and it gives us that sense of normal life, even if it is in another country. Life is the same no matter where you live, chores must be done.

We have really enjoyed our time here in Kotor and if you have never been to the Balkans you really should put Montenegro on your list of countries to visit. The natural beauty, history, food, and the super friendly people are really amazing. While we have enjoyed it, we are ready to escape the heat. The weather has been very hot the past couple weeks with highs in the upper 90’s and no cloud cover. Our AirBnB host has let us know that this is an unusually hot summer.

We will miss our neighbor above who happens to be our AirBnB hosts brother and Bobbi his dog that he walks every morning and was always so happy to visit with us and got so excited whenever he heard us in the morning. I also enjoyed our local market just up the street from us and visiting with the owner as we purchased some local produce and a large bottle of sparkling mineral water. These are the things that we enjoy, making connections and conversing with the people of the area we are visiting. As much as we can, English is spoken widely here, but we always have Google Translate at the ready.

We are very excited to see more of this beautiful country and looking forward to visiting the mountains north of here. Žabljak is where we are heading next and we are really looking forward to escaping the heat and hiking in the Durmitor National Park. The temperatures will be much more comfortable and being outside in nature really is one thing we both truly enjoy.

Dobar dan svima, do sljedćeg puta (Good day to all, until next time)

The views from the cable car are amazing

St. Tryhon's Cathedral founded in 1166
