Žabjak - Travel Day

Rainy Day Travel

Our day started with a delay of our bus, we have found that the bus schedules or more guidlines than actual schedules. To be fair it was a rainy day and the bus from Budva was probably delayed do to weather and traffic on the rad to Kotor.

There was someone at the Kotor bus station that did announce when busses arrived, which was supper helpful, and when it did arrive it was a very quick loading and turn around to get on the road. There were not many people to load which was great as well.

The ride out of Kotor was beautiful in a very different way than when we arrived, the wind was picking up and it was very overcast we could see storms in the distance approaching with lightning and the wonderful sound of thunder rolling. Annette and I both love a good thunderstorm.

The ride up over the mountain was very slow, we appreciate that since there we plenty switchbacks and the driver had to make sure he had enough room to navigate each curve in the road.

There was one stop in Nikšić which is the second largest city here in Montenegro with a population of just under 60,000. There was more energy and business in this town, well from what we could see from our bus window anyway. This town has a steel mill and other industry in the area and is the home of Trebjesa brewery which produces Nikšićka Pivara (beer). We had a quick 15 minute break at the bus station and continued on.

The bus stop in Žabljak is more like a parking lot rather than an actual bus station, but there was a gate that kept locals from parking in the lot.

We have checked into our AirBnB and laid in provisions for our stay here in the mountains. Žabljak is such a beautiful little town that is definitely going through a boom right now. The construction in the area is everywhere. This area is big on skiing and the Durmitor National Park draws people for the plethora of outdoor activities.

It is a cool rainy day and we are welcoming rain, yes you read that correctly, welcoming a wonderful rainy day. We have been in Balkans region of Europe since June 21st and have had only had three quick rain events. We are enjoying a gray rainy evening inside.

The temperature here in the mountains is so much more comfortable than Kotor. Well, it is downright chilly. A low of 13 is forecast. (56 Fahrenheit) More rain tomorrow and I’m OK with it, our host left a bottle of brandy that her family made as well as two dozen eggs and cheese made by her family.

The bus ride here was beautiful and resembled the mountains of North Carolina. So beautiful! Look forward to hiking in the national park as soon  as the rain clears in a couple days.

Tomorrow will be a good day to read and just enjoy the beautiful mountain air.

Such a beautiful little mountain town
