Zminičko jezero

The area surrounding Žabljak and the Durmitor National Park offers a plethora of outdoor activities. This was a big factor in us deciding to visit this area. We could not be happier with our choice to stay here a month and explore as much as we can.

After our impromptu difficult hike around Black Lake, we decided our next hike would be a partial one toward Zminičko jezro southeast of Žabljak. I say partial hike because the lake is 13km one way. (I am getting used to the metric system over here). The trail starts very close to our AirBnB and is a wide open space with plenty of stunning views of open meadows, some livestock, houses, and the mountains.

The views were quite striking in their simplicity. This was a completely different experience than what we had walking around Black Lake in an evergreen forest a couple days ago.

Our walk ended up being around 4 km one way, the path is beautiful with views of  cows, sheep and horses. It brought back childhood memories for both of us.

Enjoying walking through nature and watching horses and riders travel through the meadow is really such a simple pleasure, and it brings joy to us both. We both stopped and had one of those moments of thankfulness that we get to experience these simple pleasures.

So thankful we get to fulfill these dreams of exploring the world together. The Balkans have been a satisfying surprise for us both.

More outdoor adventures in Durmitor to come.
