Ladder of Kotor

Kotor, Montenegro πŸ‡²πŸ‡ͺ Ladder of Kotor

What a great day we had hiking up the ladder of Kotor which is a path that connects Kotor & Centinje, for centuries it was the only path connecting these two towns. Now it’s a (somewhat) well maintained, yet vey rocky, hiking path climbing up the mountain.

The views along the way and at the top were nothing short of breathtaking and we were thrilled to have such wonderful views of the bay of Kotor. There is another path that goes up more directly and inside ancient fortified walls, but the charge is €15 per person, so we saved our Euros, we are retired after all and on a fixed budget. πŸ˜‰

We came across an old abandoned church as well as another place that had a few seats to sit and take a break during the 900 meter accent. Our final place to sit for a while was a local goat cheese shop, an older couple lives up there and offers goat cheese bread and cold drinks, which we did partake of two sparkling waters. We heard goats bleating and we did see a few higher up the mountain but none close enough to get a picture.

We also walked near the waterfront one day and enjoyed seeing locals swimming, water is a little too cold for us. So happy we made plans to stay here for a while, we are enjoying it more and more the longer we stay. Our neighbor has been watering the plants on the front deck area of our AirBnB and asking how we are and if we enjoy Kotor so far. Needless to say we are enjoying it very much.

We are planning on doing another hike up the Franz Joseph Stairs which connects Kotor with Fort Vrmac, an Austrian Hungarian fort from the days of the Austro-Hungarian empire. Kotor is fantastic for some outdoor activities which we are really enjoying.
