Bridge to Cologne Cathedral

The Jacobs Travel Blog

What a wonderful day we had visiting Cologne again. We were last here in October 2019 and we enjoyed visiting this beautiful, gigantic, gothic cathedral again and the gemütlich little Christmas market right next to the cathedral. Our day started with a train ride from Brussels to Cologne, it was so nice to see the countryside of Europe even if it was a gray and cool day. Train travel in Europe really is very efficient and a great way to travel while in the EU.

When we arrived at Köln Hauptbahnhof and walked out the first sight is the cathedral and what a magnificent and awe-inspiring sight it is. We spent our entire day just in this area since the train station, Christmas Markets and Cathedral are all right there.

We both tried Glüwien for the first time as well as currywurst, both are fantastic, well Annette liked the Glüwien but it was a bit strong to her liking, so I got most of hers as well. Apfelstrudel, bratwurst, and a Nutella crepe were had as we made our way around the market and shopped for a few Christmas gifts.

We also visited the cathedral treasury below the cathedral and what an impressive display it was. Many relics and vestments as well as other ancient artifacts from 537 AD that we’re found during renovations or construction of the cathedral. We also walked and explored in the cathedral several times as there is just so much to see. The German people are very welcoming and we enjoyed their hospitality again. Annette & I both very much enjoy visiting Germany and we will be back again.

Love to all,

Mark & Annette Jacobs
